“There will be no grave for me,
I’m to be returned where I used to be.
And there as the long years roll away,
My ashes will mix with the dust and clay.
If I am ashes, then I’ve passed away,
But not so my spirit, if it’s true what they say.”
by Jennie Marie Crum
On December 4, 2013, our beautiful mother, Jennie Marie Rose Crum, left this world to join her heavenly father. She was born February 8, 1916, near Hassell, MT, to Clifton DeWitt Rose and Hazel Marie Seaman. She was the third of six Roses. She spent most of her childhood with her sisters where they lived on Gurnett Creek (Soapweed Hill) until they moved into Townsend. She graduated from BCHS in 1934.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Mason Crum (Jack), in 1961; a daughter, Evelyn May Stock; five Rose sisters: Lillian, Gertrude, Velma, Naomi, and Myrt; and her mother and father.
She leaves behind one son, Clifton Robert Crum (Patty) of Helena, MT; four daughters: Carol Ann McCabe of Boulder, MT; Linda Kay Ulmer (John) of Townsend, MT; Judith Marie Lots (Jim) of Layton, UT; and Sherry Hazel Castleberry (David) of East Helena, MT; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Her favorite pastimes, aside from gambling in Jackpot, NV, were her flowers, her garden, and of course her family, who were her pride and joy! She was also a gifted poet, and has left behind bits and pieces of her life in her poetry for us to treasure always. She was a kind and generous person who will truly be missed by her family and all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
The family would like to thank the medical staff and Hospice care of St Pete’s Hospital for the amazing care, respect, and compassion they gave to our mother, and for the kindness shown to the family during this difficult time.

I worked with Jennie years ago at Boulder River School and Hospital. She was a caring thoughtful person who was devoted to her job and the clients she took care of. I was privileged to work with both Jennie and her sister Velma and they were both an inspiration to me. Barbara McMahon

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Jennie and I worked together for several years (1972-73) at the “HIP” House group home in Great Falls. I have many happy memories of working with her and admired her compassion and dedication to handicapped people. She shared several recipes with me which are still enjoyed along with a thought or story about a fine lady. May God comfort you at this time and may you keep many happy memories of Jennie close to your hearts.

I send my heartfelt wishes to Linda and John, Sherry and David, Judy and Jim and the rest of the families. Although separated by many years and now a distance of half the Earth, I have enjoyed so much seeing the photos and learning of the ventures of Mrs, Crum the past few years. What a great life she had…A beautiful and loving lady..so pretty as a young woman and still sporting beautiful hair and eyes at age 97. A gracious and fun lady when we were teens in the 60’s and still enjoying gardens, flowers, kids with grankids and great grandkids in her 90’s. A pleasant waitress and mother of our friends putting up with us teens in Townsend with a smile and a bit of advice as needed. And for sure a loving and caring mom and grandma to her kids and family. Mrs. Crum had it all and shared it with all she knew. A neat lady and a great long life. RIP Mrs. Crum..you were very special to so many for a really long time! Condolences to the family. Art Graham
