Patti Diehl, 91, passed away on July 5, 2025, in Helena, Montana.
Born in Lyons, Colorado, Patti moved with her family to Sandpoint, Idaho following the Second War. Graduating from High School in 1951. She later pursued her education at the University of Cincinnati College of Business. Her professional life was marked by dedication and service moving to Helena in 1959she worked as a legal secretary and spent many years in public service at the Montana State Capitol. Patti served in the Governor’s Office under Governor Don Nutter and then Lieutenant Governor Tim Babcock. In 1961 she married Johnny Diehl at Frontiertown. Alongside her career, she embraced the roles of ranch wife and mother with equal devotion.
Patti was deeply rooted in her faith and community. A founding member of the Canyon Ferry Road Baptist Church and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Helena, she lived out her Christian values through active involvement and service. She was a committed 4-H leader and participated in organizations such as the Montana Cowbelles and the Montana Draft Horse Association.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Curt Cochran of St. Regis; her granddaughter, Corrynn Cochran of Missoula; and her grandson, Benjamin Cochran of Spokane. And numerous nieces and nephews. Patti was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Diehl, and her daughter, Lorilei Cochran.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Patti’s memory may be sent to RMDC Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1717, Helena, MT 59642.
Patti’s strong spirit, steadfast faith, and commitment to family and community leave a lasting legacy. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
