Gary Walter Yaeger
1943 – 2025
Gary Walter Yaeger, 81, of Helena, Montana, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025. A
devoted husband, father, granddad, great granddad and friend, Gary lived a life rooted in faith,
family, and fascination and appreciation for the past.
He is preceded by his loving parents Joe and Florence Yaeger and his brother Bill Yaeger. He is
survived by his childhood sweetheart whom he was later married to for 62 years, Sharon
Yaeger; their three children: Michael (Pamela), Michaelle (Jason), and Mevanie (Brad); four
grandchildren (Maverik, Mercedes, Jacob, Heather); and three great-grandchildren (Colt,
Haven, Waylon). His family always knew him as the guy with a huge smile, a crazy tool
collection, and a story for everything.
Born and raised on his family’s ranch Gary had a deep passion for steam engines, history, and
antique tools. He could tell you how every old tool worked, what it was used for, and probably
the name of the guy who made it. He found joy in restoring old equipment and sharing stories
that brought history to life. He was a talented accordion player as well. Gary was known for his
warm smile and joyful music, which he often shared online with his many friends and followers
on Facebook. Though he had the talent of a Juilliard scholar, he followed his heart and in his
beloved father’s footsteps, he became a farmer. Gary spent some time in the military as well,
proving he followed his passions wherever they took him. Gary’s life never lacked spark and
flair, two things Gary always brought to any gathering.
A man of strong Christian faith, Gary was deeply committed to his spiritual journey. He attended
bible study at Set Free Ministries and lived out his beliefs through acts of generosity, grace, and
humility. His faith guided him through life and brought comfort to those around him.
Gary’s memory will be honored at a steam day celebration of life held at Mike and Pam’s August
30, 2025, 6755 Silver Fox Ct. Helena, MT starting at 1:00 pm.
He will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, but his stories, spirit, and
steadfast love for God will live on in the hearts of many.
