Lucy E. “Dolly†Lamping, 89, of Helena passed away August 6, 2012. Lucy was born in Helena to Frank and Verna Miller in 1922. She was one of their ten children. Lucy was born a premature baby, just under 2 pounds. She survived by the grace of God. She was so small her first bed was a shoe box. She was like a little doll, hence the nickname Dolly. Dolly was born to a poor family, when her mother died at a young age, she quit school in order to take care of her siblings. The school she did attend was destroyed in the earthquakes, her classroom was moved to a box car. Dolly and her family survived the great depression. She later used her experience to lecture her own children about wasting food. Some days she was grateful to have a potato water and a special treat was bread dipped in syrup.
Dolly married Cliff Lamping in 1940. They had six children and raised them in East Helena. Dolly worked at several places but spent the bulk of her time working for the state. She loved people and animals unconditionally. She was totally devoted to her family, she loved giving them things she never had. At mid-life she became a born-again Christian and a committed member of Fortress of Joy Church. She spent the last 14 years dealing with the curse of Alzheimer, but now she is free at last.
Dolly was preceded in death by her husband Cliff, son Tom, daughter Mary, and all but one of her siblings, many relatives and in-laws.
She is survived by daughters Linda Reed and Lois Collins (Doug), sons Jerry Lamping (Kathy) and Phil Lamping (Terri), her sister Sue Cote, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Fortress of Joy Church with graveside committal will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery, East Helena. To offer condolences to the family please visit www.helenafunerals.com

Dolly was one of my favorite customers when I worked for Charlie W and later for Frank M at the East Helena IGA. I doubt there was ever a day that dawned which
was not an occasion for one of Dolly’s radiant smiles. What a fabulous lady. Heaven has a wonderful angel now. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Glen Cuchine, Boise, ID
