Noel John Larson, 67 of Townsend, went home to his final resting place on September 27, 2012 at Fort Harrison VA Hospital. He was born on December 12, 1944 in Fork Township, Minnesota on the family farm to Erling and Myrtle (Rud) Larson. The family later moved to California where he attended Sweetwater High School in National City and graduated in June 1963. He worked with his dad restoring cars while attending South Western Junior College until he was drafted into the Army in 1965. He married Dorothy Slater on April 2, 1966 and served in Vietnam from April 1966 to April 1967. He mustered out of the Army in September 1967. Noel earned many medals while serving our country, including the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. In November 1968 their son Keith was born in California, daughter Kris was born April 1971, and son Kael was born April 1976. Noel went to work at Rohr Aircraft Corporation in Chula Vista, Ca until they moved to Grangeville, ID in 1977 to be closer to Noel’s family. They later moved to Blanchard, ID where Noel worked for George White Company until moving to Townsend in 1986 to manage the Bark Plant until 2010 when he retired.
Noel is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Larson of Townsend; his children, Keith (Teena) Larson, Kris (Bill) Crotinger, and Kael (Jessie) Larson. His grandchildren, Kaleb and Keagan Larson, Ashlyn and Aidan Crotinger, Zack, Arin, and Ericka Larson. He is also survived by his sisters, Rochelle (Norm) Henderson, Jan (George) Blake, and Shirley (George) Rinehart and brother, Lynn Larson, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his father, Erling Larson; mother, Myrtle Evans; brother, Jerry Larson, and nephew, Kevin Blake.
Noel was a generous man who always helped others in need. He loved his family and always made sure he provided for them. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
