From Tom & Nina’s ex-Secular Franciscan Minister, who assisted them with their Professions into the Secular Franciscan Order: “Tom and Nina studied for several years, in preparation for their entering into the lay-religious Gospel life of Francis of Assisi. About a month or two before their Profession date, Tom and Nina came over to Missoula to spend a morning with their OFS-Missoula Franciscan Family. Even before the meeting began, Nina was out of sorts and needed to speak with me, her Minister,
about an urgent matter. “I’m very worried and concerned”, she said to me, “that I’m not going to live long enough to make it to our Profession date.” Full of compassion and well aware of her strong anxiety of the moment, because Professing into the Franciscan lay-religious life was so very important to her, I calmly gave her a hug, took her hand and gently said, with a big smile and Christ’s light shining in my eyes, “Please do not be afraid about all this. Even if you don’t make it to Profession day (it was six weeks off), as far as your Franciscan family is concerned, you’ve completed your studies and you are ALREADY PROFESSED into the Order; the Liturgy of Profession is just a formality.” And with that, her face lit up, and I could literally feel a massive weight drop from her shoulders and heart, and letting out a pent-up sigh of relief, she said “Thank You.”

God bless you, Nina, “May perpetual light shine upon you, and my you rest in peace.” And rest in His embrace, knowing that your Franciscan family will be looking out for, and taking care of your Tom. Amen.

Grace, Blessings, “PAX ET BONUM” and love you too.
From Joe Korona OFS, for the Secular Franciscans of Western Montana, Missoula
