Carol M. Vashro, 90, peacefully passed away at Big Sky Care Center, early Sunday morning July 10, where she had been a patient for many years due to declining health.
Carol was born on August 29, 1925, in Minneapolis, MN to parents George and Jane (Schwarz) Vashro. She was the youngest of five children. She and Bernard Shute were married in Virginia City, MT where they made their home with her young son, David, for 7 years, before moving to Butte then moving to Helena. Carol worked many years for the Office of Public Instruction, where she worked with the school lunch programs for the State. She and Bert later divorced and she married Jim Erickson. They lived a short time in Havre before moving back to Helena. She and Jim later divorced. One of her greatest joys was being a member of the Daughters of Isabella, in which she was a past matron, but that was second to her love for her son, David, who lived in San Antonio, Texas. Her greatest hope was to live near Davis, in Texas but her and David’s declining health made it impossible.
Carol was preceded in death by her father, George Vashro, mother Jane Krumsick of Helena, stepfather Henry Krumsick of MN, son David of San Antonio, TX, sisters Gen Vashro; Harriet and brother-in-law Einer Peterson; and Dorothy Eidson all of Minneapolis; and brother Richard Vashro of Helena. She is survived by her sister-in-law Joyce Vashro of Helena; loving niece and her husband Mary and John Lamb, and many more nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews in MT and MN.
Her family wishes to express our gratitude for the loving care she received at Big Sky Care Center, and for the wonderful care and support from St. Peter’s Hospice.
Memorial mass will be held at noon, July 28, 2016 at The Cathedral of St. Helena with a reception following the service. She will join her son at Resurrection Cemetery. Family requests donations to Farm & Garden c/o West Mont, 2708 Bozeman Ave, Helena, MT 59601. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.helenafunerals.com
