Debra Kay Wright, 66, of Helena, died at St. Peter’s Hospital on Friday evening, March 3, 2017, following a courageous battle with cancer. Her good life ended peacefully, with her husband Mark, and her children Kent and Jeneva by her side.
Debra was born in Sterling, Kansas, the eldest child of George and Patricia Biggs. She grew up in Lyons, Kansas, and received her bachelor’s degree in Biology at Kansas State Teacher’s College, where she also met the love of her life and husband of 45 years, Mark.
Debra and Mark married in Lyons, Kansas in 1971. They were inseparable, and spent wonderful years together traveling the world, exploring the great outdoors, and raising two sons, Andrew and Kent. In 1981, the family moved to Rawlins, WY, where Debra worked for many years as a medical technologist. In 2004, Debra and Mark relocated to Helena to build their dream home and enjoy retirement in the Montana mountains.
Debra’s life was built on a foundation of kindness, good humor, adventures, faith in God, and family. She was a good friend and neighbor, dedicated to her community. As a member of the Assembly of God church, she offered her time and assistance freely. Debra was a masterful artist in stained glass, creating beautiful pieces for friends, craft fairs, and her own lovely home. She was a gifted gardener, nurturing a wide variety of flowers and vegetables, and fearlessly defending them from opportunistic deer. She loved to travel, and she proudly skimmed the surface of lakes on a slalom water ski every summer for 56 years straight. She was brave, compassionate, strong-willed, and spoke her mind. She was beloved.
Debra is survived by her: Husband, Mark Wright of Helena; Son, Andrew Wright of Helena; Son and Daughter-in-Law, Kent and Jeneva Wright of Denver; Mother, Patricia Williamson of Lyons, KS; Brother, Thomas Biggs of Lyons; Nephew, Bolton Biggs of Lyons; and Grand-daughters, McKenzi and Hannah Wright of Buffalo, WY.
Debra’s beautiful life will be celebrated in a service at Neighborhood Assembly of God, 2450 Flowerree St., Helena, on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to Neighborhood Assembly of God Church.

She was my neighbor and I considered her my friend, we met when I dropped by to see if she wanted some flower seeds and in turn she gave bags and bags of flower seeds from her garden, from that point on we had a connection a friendship. I did not know her well but knew she was special and I will miss her very much. God Bless her and Mark and her Family!
