Randolf Lee Benson passed peacefully, from an extended illness, on November 21, 2017, surrounded by Mike Benson (Julie) and long time friends Alan and Tina Arnold who were his caregivers.
Randy was born to Walter and Thelma Benson of Clancy Montana on October 15,1949. He spent his youth traipsing around the mountains of Jefferson City, Clancy, and Warm Springs Creek and the Tizers with his lifelong friend George Demers fishing, hunting and all the shenanigans boys get into in their youth.
Randy lived life his own way which always included the need for speed, weather it was driving fast, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, 4-wheelers or his Harley it was always done at full throttle, and with a positive attitude.
He loved to ski; making many trips to Whitefish with his cousin/friend Mike Benson. His most memorable trip was when he went to Austria and Switzerland.
He was an avid prospector, always looking for that gold nugget on the family mining claim up the Middle Fork of Warm Springs Creek.
Randy was proud of his service as a US Marine and his tour of duty in Viet Nam. He spent his civilian life as an excavator owning and operating his own business, Benson Excavation. His slogan for the company was “We dig Montana”, which he truly did love Montana, his “Triple Nickel”, John Deer Backhoe, and Mac dump truck.
He was proceeded in death by his entire family, parents “Duke” and “Dolly” Benson, brothers and sister; Willie, Larry, Sue, Mark, Gus and Ben. He is survived by a Niece Jillian, Nephew Nicholas and cousin Ron Benson.
A graveside service will be held at Fort Harrison Veterans Memorial Cemetery on December 6th, 2017 at 11:00 am.
