Early on the morning of September 20th, 2019 Larry age 67, of East Helena passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital from complications of a recent heart attack and pneumonia.
Larry was born December 22, 1951, in Jesup, Georgia to Pauline Lightsey and Henry Wilton Ring. He was the second child of six children. He grew up on the family farm in Odum, Georgia. He graduated from Wayne County High School in 1970.
Larry attended college and in August of 1975 he married Sandra Gail Thornton and lived in Screven, Georgia. Joy joined the family in 1978 and Jon soon after in 1979. When he completed his BS in Mathematical Education from Georgia Southern University, they moved to Mississippi, where he taught on the Choctaw Indian Reservation for 2 years. While there Joni joined the family in 1982.
Larry then returned to his studies and received his Masters in Computer Science at Auburn University. They moved back to Georgia where they welcomed their fourth child, Joel in 1986. Shortly after his birth they moved to Helena, Montana. Where Larry taught at the Adult Learning Center before receiving a minor in Business from MSU. They then moved to Brady, Montana, where he taught math at the local school for 2 years. They left Brady in 1995 and settled in East Helena, were he lived the remainder of his life. After starting a job with Westmont, they welcomed their fifth child, Jodi in 1997. He worked for Westmont 16 years before retiring.
He loved reading, history, food, gardening, watching movies and spending time with his grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Pauline, and his brother Jimmy.
He is survived by his sister Libby (Rodger) Mccolloch, and brothers, Leland (Linda) Ring, Jesse Ring and Jerry (Linda) Ring, all from Georgia; the mother of his children, Sandra Ring, of Helena; children Joy (Ed) Kostka of Helena, Jon (Honey) Ring of Helena, Joni Ring of Avon, Joel (Dawn) Ring of Helena and Jodi Ring of Helena; grandchildren; Kyra and Katie Groff, Edward and Melody Kostka, Jack, Henry and Wyatt Ring, Austin Bluhm, Xeydyn Blancher, Tommy Ring and Annabeth George. Along with numerous nieces and nephews. And his dear friends Lloyd and Betty Huttinger of East Helena.
A private family viewing will be held on Wednesday the 25th, before his cremation. His remains will be interned on the family property at a later date. There will be a coffee hour to celebrate his life Wednesday at noon in the home of Jon and Honey Ring.
