Mike Halligan says
I had the honor of serving in the Senate with Dave and he was one of the most effective legislators I had the honor of serving with, because he treated people with absolute respect, listened to their concerns and always operated with the belief that no one legislator had all the answers. He compromised to get things done while maintaining the values he wanted to protect. All honor to his name for the legacy he left for others to follow. former Senator Mike Halligan
William Palmer says
My friend Spike–We had many happy times together. We built buildings, reformed state laws for the better, played many rounds of golf, drank a few beverages, and shared many philosophical thoughts on life. You were an honest friend whom I respected greatly. I will missyou. God bless, Bill Palmer

I came to work at Rocky Mountain Development Council in 2001. One of the best experiences at this work was meeting Dave. I immediately became one of his biggest fans. His wonderful humor and dedication to serving people was such an inspiration to me and continues into my 21st year here. We shared many of the same philosophies and I will never forget the fun we had at work. I have missed him since the day he left RMDC and I will until we meet again on the other side. Here’s to you David and a well deserved rest!!!

John Matthews says
David was a friend known through American Legion Baseball. I lost track of him, as I was a couple of years older, but certainly got re-acquainted through his obituary. What a terrific person was he. I have lived out of the Helena area since 1961, but our paths, especially politically, and service to others have been very similar. What a terrific person he became. I wish we could have worked together. John (Butch) Matthews

Cathy, I just wanted you to know how sorry I was to see that Dave has passed away. He was a great friend of mine, Jim Murry and the labor movement. We shared common goals and spent many good times joking and laughing together. It was always a joy interacting with Spike and Jim when the humor was flying. So sorry for your loss. Don Judge
Joe and Laurie Lamson says
Cathy,
So sorry to learn of Spike’s passing. Seeing the news hit heavy on our hearts. Spike was always a pure joy and a good friend. He definitely made a positive difference in so many ways. Countless Montanans were lifted on his eagle wings.
Peace be with you and your family.
Take care.
