Adele Gardner, 76, passed in her sleep surrounded by family on 4 December 2015 after a long battle with cancer. She was born 18 August 1939, in Newark, New Jersey, the youngest of 6 children born to Edward F. and Anna F. (Faas) Gardner.
Adele attended grade school in Bloomfield, New Jersey until about 4th grade, when along with her parents, she moved to Thurmont, Maryland where he graduated High School in 1957. Adele spent her summers in Newark visiting with her sisters and brothers who lived there. She moved back to Newark after graduation and started working. In the late 1960 she moved to Illinois to be closer to her sister. In the mid 70’s she came out to see her brother in Boulder and liked the area so well she moved to Helena where she had made her home until her death.
Adele had a deep faith in her Lord. She knew that when she passed she would be with God and her family again.
Adele worked for Montana State Workers Comp. She later went to work cleaning houses. She did this until her health made her retire. She loved to visit with her friends and hear what was new in their lives. She would spend hours talking on the phone with friends and family. She was a lover of animals, especially cats. She always loved to see the kittens at the Humane Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Harold and Ralph and her sister Edith.
She is survived by her sister Clair Verbitsky of Hobo Sound, Florida and her brother Edward Gardner of Coaldale, Pennsylvania, her niece Shirley Rogers of Boulder. Long time friend Beverly Scott of Maryland and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her many family and friends.
Adele’s family would like to thank Dr. Justin Thomas of the Cancer Treatment Center and Hospice of St. Peters for the wonderful care they gave to Adele in her last months.
Funeral services will be December 10, 2015, at 10 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church, 2210 Dodge Avenue, Helena, MT 59601. Burial will be at the Boulder Cemetery at a later date.
