I knew Alan as a colleague and friendly face at many geological and other functions. My heartfelt condolence for his family and friends as he left us far too early in life. A fond memory Ill share was taking a gardening class that he taught many years ago in Elko. He was obviously passionate about growing things and left me with a wealth of ideas that I use to this day… Al Lander

Dear Charlette and Family, I am saddened to hear of Alan’s passing. I was glad to have been able to talk with him at the GSN conference in May. He was a very generous and kind man and I always wanted to thank him for hiring me as a geologist for Midway Gold back in 2005. Know that he will be missed but more importantly that he made a difference in my life and in many others. Sincerely, Rick R. Schur

There was and will not be another like Alan. Kind, godly and fun, he was! so sorry for the loss for you, Charlotte and kids. The loss will be to many others, also.

Charlotte, Matt, Christa, Danielle and Jon- I am so saddened to hear of Alan’s passing. Although I didn’t know him well, I was always impressed with his countenance and how he treated everyone who crossed his path. The measure of the man is evidenced in his family and his legacy will live on in each and every one of you. Heaven is rejoicing and those of us on Earth can grieve with hope. We are praying for each and every one of you. Much love, Jo Ann and Kelley Jones

Charlotte and Family,
It was immediate clear from first meeting Alan that he was a bright, courteous and caring man. My one field experience with Alan was memorable – he arrived at our small-scale trenching project as if a million dollar investment was at stake, carefully taking notes, photos and working out the geometry of what we were seeing. I imagine he was this thorough and perceptive throughout his career.
The exploration and mining world has lost a great advocate and entrepreneur but we are much better for having worked with him.
My most sincere regards,
Bruce Cox

Dear Charlotte and kids…
I don’t know how to express myself well concerning your husband and Dad, but I know that I will see him again and look forward to that day. From his perspective, it will be only a brief moment in time.
I would like to share some things from my perspective that you already know:
He trusts God. He had his head on straight – Your husband and Father knew Whom he had believed and was persuaded that He is able to keep that which was committed to Him until the Day of the Lord.
He was a mentor. An example to me of someone who knew how to teach and train children who will become leaders in a culture that is devoid of true leadership. The best teaching of ‘parenting’ that ever happened in our church was brought by him.
He was full of life. Always pursuing new adventures as long as the Lord gave him breath, encouraged me to keep my sights aimed high!
He was a friend. To anyone who wanted to be his. I remember that the only time that I have ever found gold was with Alan. He set up my little sluice box and showed me how to run it. I found one flake of gold. He laughed that I wouldn’t get rich doing that!
He was concerned for others. Whenever I would pray with him, he was always concerned more about others than himself. On the day that he entered into the Lord’s presence, he asked me about my family. I found that to be a true example of Jesus!
If Colleen or I can be of assistance in any way… we are there for you.

I had the pleasure of working with Alan several times with Newmont and Midway Gold. He was a unique person — both very passionate in his work and very personable and caring with others. He was very successful yet very humble. A great human being.

I had the great pleasure of having Alan as a coworker and friend for many years, starting with our days together at Newmont Exploration in the early 90s. He was a good and honest man full of the love of God, which is a very rare thing these days. I still have on my office wall a note he left me when I was having a bad day, and that note inspires me still. Even more so now. See you again someday, Ol’ Friend. Charlotte, our thoughts and many prayers are with you and the kids.

Alan was a great friend. He was a neighbor across the creek. I meet Alan through my wife before we were married, Jeanne was my wife Debbie’s best friend. Alan and I had a lot in common- rocks, outdoor stuff , and eventually faith. He would come over to visit and we talk about our interests for hours at a time. Alan was a great person and I will miss him greatly. Thanks for the memories Alan. John Dhyne
