In the late morning hours of 27 November 2015, after a 3 year battle with Uterine cancer, Alice passed away at Aspen Gardens Assisted Living, with her sister at her side.
Born on 6 January 1951, to Paul V. and Gladys H. Loendorf, in Livingston, MT., Alice was named after her grandmothers, strong women, who homesteaded in eastern Montana. She was the middle of 5 children, and always liked to think she was the peanut butter and jelly that held us together. She probably was!
At age 12, Alice developed Epilepsy which greatly affected the rest of her life. Throughout all the challenges she faced, she never let anything dampen her positive spirit, and her matter-of-fact attitude toward dealing with her cancer was incredible. Towards the end of her life, Alice was always trying to make it easier for others to deal with her impending death. Alice’s LDS Faith was the strength in her journey.
Alice attended St Helena Grade School. Graduating in the final class of Helena Catholic Central High School in 1969, but needing a few extra credits, she went to Helena High to finish up the following year. She also attended Carroll College for a short while.
Alice loved to sing, draw, and paint, even selling a few of her paintings. In High school she discovered baton twirling, through a close friend, and with the encouragement of her Dad, learned how to twirl fire batons, which she performed at school, and other events.
Married to Dan L. Pope on 8 September 1979, Alice shortly thereafter chose to join her husband in his religion. She became a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, and thoroughly enjoyed the church’s very supportive community. Alice’s LDS friends and acquaintances, as well as their services were a huge part of her life, and a great help, and comfort especially towards the end. Alice received her Endowment into the LDS Billings Temple in August of 2015, which was a significantly meaningful milestone to her.
Alice and Dan’s only child, Roland Paul Pope, was born in 1981. Alice loved being a Mother, and was always very proud of her son, especially his service in the U.S. Army.
For 16 years, Alice was a client at Heritage House Adult Day Care, owned and run by Donna Wallace. Every client there was a new friend for Alice, and she enjoyed helping others as much as she could. When Heritage House closed, Donna helped Alice become a Senior Volunteer, and then a Foster Grandmother – working at Rocky Mountain Pre-school from 2004 until September of this year. The children there were “her grandchildren”, and they kept her young at heart.
The friends Alice met through A+ Home Health Care, who assisted her with her medications, and shopping, we’re like family to her, and were so very greatly appreciated.
Alice will always be remembered for her ready smile, and her loving easy going personality, and of course, her butterfly hair ornaments and jewelry.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Don Loendorf. Survivors include her husband, Dan and, son, Roland of East Helena, sisters, Sue (Ed) Standley of Helena; Nanc Loendorf of Great Falls; brother, Dennis (Debra) Loendorf of Wolf Point; sisters-in-law Helen Loendorf of Helena; Fancy (Johnathan) Storm of Bangor, Maine; Connie (Rick) Worland of Arkansas; brothers-in-law, Ron (Margaret) Pope of St George, Utah; Richard (Vickie) Pope of Helena, numerous cousins, several nieces and nephews, as well as young great nieces(4), and great nephews (3) of Helena and Missoula, who loved her as much as she loved them!
Services will be held at LDS 5th Ward, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5th, 2015 at 1610 E. 6th Street in Helena.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of St Peters Rocky Mountain Pre-School, 5th Ward LDS Relief Society, or Aspen Gardens.
A heartfelt Thank you to the above organizations for all they have done for Alice, and many Thanks to the caring staff, and clients of Aspen Gardens for their friendship, and care for the past 1 1/2 years.

To all of Alice’s family, I am so sorry for your loss. Alice was a beautiful lady inside and out. I always remember her of being so happy and always having a smile on her face. I am so glad I got to see her a few years ago for Angela Loendorf’s 90th birthday party. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
