Antoinette “Toni” Meyering, 76, passed away peacefully in her home on June 1st, 2022, with her daughter Kim by her side. Toni was diagnosed with multi-organ cancer early this spring.
Toni was born on December 6th, 1946 to parents Raymond Bergan and Mary Elizabeth Craft. After graduating from Boise High School, she married Richard Meyering on November 22, 1963. They were happily married for over fifty years until Richard’s death in 2014. They had three kids: Teresa, Kimberly, and Richard E.
Toni worked at the Montana Department of Environmental Quality for over 20 years. She mentioned many times the highlight of her career was being shuttled by helicopter to mines across the state. Her favorite pastime included building a paradise with the love of her life on Hauser Lake. One of our favorite memories of Grandma is shortly after moving to the lake house, she was sitting on the deck and talking on the phone to Kim, stating how “she loved sitting there watching the penguins (known to most as pelicans).” From that day forward, a collection of penguins was born. Her hobbies also included, spending time in her garden, making raspberry jelly for her grandkids, quilting, and playing with her dogs, Jazzy and Josie. We will always cherish Grandma’s spontaneous humor, which she carried right to the end. Like when her grandson told her to give him a bear hug and her response in a puzzled manner, “who, you?!?” with a smirky smile on her face.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard “Papa” Meyering; and her son Rich E.
Toni is survived by her daughter Teresa of Spokane; grandson Patrick (Jennifer, great grandchildren Haley, Alena, and Elizabeth); granddaughter Makelle (Scott, great grandchildren Brooklyn, and Christopher) and daughter Kim of Helena; grandson Dillon (Danielle, great grandson Bridger); grandson Alex (Abbey).

Kim and family,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. I worked with Toni for many years and she was always smiling and friendly. I don’t know if you remember but she suggested you cut my hair and you did for years. Toni helped me introduce my first child to the employees at State Lands by hosting a party at their lake house. She was truly a joy to work with and will be missed. Lots of Love and Prayers for your family.

I worked with Toni for many years at what was then the Department of State Lands, the precursor of the Department of Environmental Quality. I was fresh out of college with no experience of office work or how to thread office politics. Toni took me under her wing and helped me grow into a productive employee. I was terribly grateful to her at the time, and enjoyed visiting her home and meeting Rich. If I remember, at the time they had a parakeet who delighted in calling their dog into the house. It resulted in a lot of laughs. She was a wonderful friend and mentor at work. Thank goodness for kind people like Toni and Rich.
