In Memory Of

Brett Herzog

October 3, 1964 – November 2, 2021

Brett Herzog, 57, of Clancy, passed away on February 11, 2021 at St. Peter’s Hospital from a glioblastoma.

Brett was born to Lawrence and Donna Herzog on March 10, 1964 in Great Falls, Montana. Brett attended Great Falls High School graduating class of 1982.

Brett completed two Bachelor’s degrees, Construction Technology in Havre and Construction Engineering Technology at Montana State University. Brett was the President of Rocky Mountain Contractors where he loved his work and everyone he worked with.

Brett married Sandra Casson on December 12, 1992. They had three children, Mallory, Tucker and Augustus.

Brett loved to go snowmobiling and 4-wheeling, weld, mow the lawn and spend time with family and friends. A lot of joy and memories were shared during trips to the beloved family cabin in Neihart. Being in the mountains was home. Brett enjoyed Neihart so much that he also served on the Neihart Store Board.

Brett is survived by wife, Sandra, children, Mallory (Josh) Herzog, Tucker (Rebecca) Herzog, and Augustus Herzog, bonus children Tre McMillan and Chase Benson, parents Lawrence and Donna Herzog, brothers, Scott (Mary) Herzog, Brian (Donna) Herzog, Jeff (Liz) Herzog and dear friends, Pat and Alita Newton and Dixon Hitch.

Memorials can be made in Brett’s name to the Neihart Inconvenience Store, 209 Main Street, Neihart, MT 59465.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 15th from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Big Sky Cremations and Twitchell Funeral Service, 2 West Main Street, East Helena. A second visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 16th from 9:45 am – 10:45 am with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 201 44th Street South, Great Falls.

I was fortunate enough to work with Brett for many years, and we had several wonderful experiences together. On one trip to the “corporate headquarters” in Bismarck, Brett and I got on the flying culvert (Big Sky Airlines) and were only two of the five passengers. Great! we can pick any seat we want! Brett and I chose the back seats, because they offered the most leg room, which was very much needed. BUT, before we took off the pilot came back and told us we would have to move to the front of the plane, because we weighed too much. We had to cram into the smaller front row seats to help balance the plane :(. There are many other stories that could be relayed, but they remain happily in my memory.

My condolences to the family, friends, and many co-workers.
    You will be missed “buddy.”

Some of my best life memories were with Brett. He made life better for those of us who were fortunate enough to know him. I keep thinking about horse pack trips Brett and I took in the Bob Marshal Wilderness. What great times! Happy trails my friend……

The true gold on this planet is good people who make other people’s lives more enjoyable.

I enjoyed my time working with Brett and we shared a lot of laughter. While very knowledeable in many areas his strongest attributes were his personality, sense of humor and kindness. There was absolutely no malice in this man’s heart. It was always very obvious how much he loved his family as he was always anxious to tell you about their achievements.
To Sandi and family I express my deep sympathy.

Brett was a man of his word and integrity, honesty and respect are part of his legacy. Always positive and encouraging. When we would wager a beer on football he would always honor that wager and usually with a few more! You will be missed my friend but never forgotten as your legacy is as large as the big sky’s of Montana.

Please except my deepest condolences at this time of sadness and loss. Brett was a giant of a man with a heart that was bigger than his joyous personality. Brett was a true friend and he was someone that was honest and real. I am very sorry for your families loss but you will be together again.

We are so sorry for your loss Sandi and family. I was fortunate to work with and for Brett for 6 years at RMC. He was a great boss to work for, he really cared for his guys and always stressed safety and reminded us how the most important thing was that we all go home to our families at the end of the day. If I was in the shop at break time he liked to come out and sit with us and visit. He said he had to get out of the office for a while, lots of stories and laughter. He was a great man and will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched.

I am so sorry about Brett. I am fortunate to have gotten to know Brett and Sandra over the course of the past 5 years during our trips to the Montana Governor’s Cup in the Flathead in August. Brett and Sandra and Michelle and Kevin Harris hosted our group out on the lake several times and we had a great time relaxing on the water. Great memories. Brett was so kind and generous to all of us. I am glad to have had the chance to get to know him. He will be missed.
