In Memory Of

Christine Sweningson

May 9, 1920 – December 29, 2016

Christine Sweningson passed away December 29, 2016. She was born in 1920 near Ashby, Minnesota to Ole and Guri Alvstad. The family moved to Stave Township, Mountrail County, North Dakota when Christine was very young. She attended Stave School through the 8th grade.
She married Joe Sweningson in 1940 in Wolf Point, Montana. They lived in Lewistown, Montana until Joe enlisted in the US Army to serve in World War II. During the time Joe was in the army, Christine lived with Joe’s sister, Selma, in Los Angeles, California. While there she worked for Gillfillan Radio Manufacturing where she assembled radios.
Around 1958, Joe and Christine purchased the Trail Inn Service Station in Blaisdell, North Dakota which they operated until 1975. Christine then went to work as a housekeeper at the Stanley Community Hospital and later at the Mountrail County Bethel Home. In 1994 Christine moved to Helena, Montana.
Christine was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness in 1962. She loved to visit with people about the Kingdom that we pray for in the Lord’s Prayer. That Kingdom, with Jesus Christ as King, will restore to earth all that God purposed in the beginning. Jehovah God gave the earth as an everlasting home for mankind and he will fulfill that purpose. Had Adam and Eve not sinned they would have lived here on earth forever. As Psalm 37:29 promises, “the righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it”.
Christine is survived by her children: Joanne (Morris) Knutson, Janet (Mike) Schossow and Rod Sweningson, her granddaughters: Briana Sweningson and Ashley Sweningson and one brother Glen Alvstad. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters Millie, Vallie, Thilda, Esther, Ethel, Guida and Lillian and brothers Tommy, Olaf, Floyd, Gordon, and Elmer.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 21 Colonial Drive, Helena. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.helenafunerals.com
