Dane Anthony Moody’s heart of gold stopped beating on June 4th 2014 yet his kind spirit lives on. He arrived in the world 55 years earlier on September 30th 1958 in Cyril Oklahoma as the youngest member of Melvin and Geneva Moody’s parcel of children that includes surviving members Ron, Kaye, Becky, and Stephen.
He greatly valued his childhood and the memories made being raised in the south including his faith and the grace received as being a preacher’s son. Anyone who met Dane would always be greeted with a big smile and his long southern draw sincerely asking you how things were going.
Dane would often say he was born 100 years too late because he had a true desire to be a mountain man. It was this aspiration that led Dane to load up his family in 1986 and head to Helena Montana to live in the grandeur of Big Sky country. This created great hunting, fishing, hiking and camping adventures galore where Dane was in his true element.
Dane had a way of feeling a song. He often described how the sound of a guitar would talk to him. He found peace in many songs, with Lynyrd Skynyrd’s song “Simple Man” being his favorite:
Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it’ll help you
some sunny day. Oh Yah!
Oh take your time don’t live too fast
troubles will come and they will pass
Go find a woman and you’ll find love
And don’t forget son there is someone up above
Chorus:
And be a simple kind of man
Oh be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won’t you do this for me son if you can?
Forget your lust, for the rich man’s gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this Oh baby if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied
(Chorus)
Boy don’t you worry, you’ll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this Oh baby if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied
(Chorus)
The family finds solace that Dane is now able to be in a place where he has been set free from his health issues that he struggled with for the past 8 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Geneva Moody. He is survived by his daughter Megan Jean Moody and granddaughter Kayla, daughter Rhiannon (Steve) Lindsay and grandsons Taylor and Brandon, his four siblings, and his furry companion Lakota Waggin’ Tail.
A service celebrating Dane’s life will be held at 11AM Monday June 16, 2014 at East Valley Foursquare Church located at 708 East Groschell Street East Helena Montana followed by a potluck reception. The family requests any commemorative donations be made to Pad for Paws Foundation P.O. Box 287 Helena, MT 59624. Please visit www.helenafunerals.com to offer the family a condolence or to share a memory of Dane.
