In Memory Of

Daniel Lamping, age 86, of Helena

June 1, 1937 – March 2, 2024

Daniel Dwight Lamping

06/01/1937-03/02/2024

Dan was born to parents Pearl and Fred Lamping on the family ranch in East Helena June 1, 1937.

Growing up, he learned to work on the ranch, splitting time between the winter pastures in East Helena and summer pastures, at what is now the family cabin in the Elkhorn Mountains. Dan attended and graduated from the Helena Catholic School in 1956.

After high school Dan apprenticed to become an Electrician.  He owned  and operated Polar Electric, employing many friends and family members.  He also owned and operated Grizzly Auto Parts with his brother Richard Lamping.  He ran a small herd of cattle on his mom’s and dad’s old homestead. Dan was a jack of all trades and a master of many.

Dan married the love of his life Donna Lamping October 17, 1975.  Together they had a daughter Daniell Lamping and son Ty Lamping. Dan was also father to Tami Lamping, an addition to the family when he met Donna.

Dan enjoyed his family, camping, hunting, fishing and regular trips to Alaska each summer with his son Ty, brothers and nephews.

He passed away at home surrounded by family on March 2, 2024.  It just so happens this was his wife- Donna Lampings Birthday.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Fred Lamping; siblings Arvah Chenkovich-Morton, Fred Lamping, Leonard Lamping, Clifford Lamping, Wyona Spoonemore, and Kenneth Lamping. And in-laws William Morton, Andrew Chenkovich, Cliff Spoonemore, Lauretta Lamping , Pearl Lamping, Loretta Lamping, Dolly Lamping, wife Donna Lamping and Darlene Lamping.

He is survived by his children- Daniell Lamping, Ty (Amber) Lamping and Tami Lamping; grandchildren Ashlyn Lamping, Madi Lamping, Connor Lamping, Trey Redden and Cole Redden. Siblings Larry (Barb) Lamping and Ronald Lamping and many nieces and nephews.

The celebration of life will be held at St. Cyril Methodius Church March 6th at noon, burial following at St. Anne’s Cemetery.

Oh my goodness Tami! I am so sorry for your loss! You are right though, your sweet mom was waiting for him, and they are now together again! He was very lucky to live till the age of 86, and still be at home and have his faculties about him. He was a pleasure to have h ad the opportunity to clean for. He was a kind and thoughtful soul…

My older brother, Martin Lane, was a pal of Danny’s and spoke highly of him. The two would love to have a toast at the Corner Bar!

My prayers and sympathy extend to Dan’s family during this time of loss.
Dan and I grew up together, attended St. Ann’s grade school in East Helena and Cathedral high in Helena. It was only at our 50th and 60th class reunions that we had the opportunity to become reacquainted and have good visits. It’s always a loss for me
when someone I grew up with passes on.
    In sympathy,
    Sister Bernadette Helfert

Dan remains a legend in the electrical industry. He was one of the good guys. Honest and hard-working. He gave me my first job in the industry. Thanks, Uncle Danny!

I never met Dan but while searching the internet for information about my older brother Dan Lamping I happened on Dan’s obituary. When I saw Dan’s picture I knew that we were related. I grew up hearing stories about Uncle Fred and his family in Montana from my grandfather (Joseph Clemons Lamping) and my father (John Andrew Lamping). I’m struck by the similarities between my brother Dan (Dr. John Daniels Lamping) and Daniel Dwight Both valued family and knew the value of hard work. Both forged friendships that lasted their entire lives. Despite having never met Dan, I feel I knew him my whole life. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I know that the entire St. Louis side of the Lamping family shares my sentiments.
