On February 24, 2020, early in the morning, Esther Marie Spahr went home to be with Jesus. She was 87. She passed at St. Peter’s Hospital of natural causes. A special thank you goes out to the nursing staff of the Med/Surg floor. May God richly bless you all.
Esther was born to Elizabeth & Sullivan Spahr on February 20, 1933. She grew up in Warren, OH. She went to college in Syracuse, NY. At 19, she married. In October 1958, she gave birth to 1 daughter. She was a stay at home mom till her daughter started school.
At which time she started Pre-Med. With God’s calling & guidance she completed medical school and raised a family at a time when women in Medical School were rare. She graduated Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1970.
After a few years of private practice, she went on to further her training and did a Psychiatric Residency with specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Esther was a down to earth person, she may have been a doctor, but she prefered just to be called Esther by the people that knew her and seldom used her title when meeting folks.
She had a tremendous love for God and loved to study His word. She loved to read and found great pleasure in her crafts. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed gardening. All of which she passed on a love for to her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane St. Claire, and 4 fur babies, Gracie, Leo, Melody, and Charity. We all miss her dearly.
Cremation has taken place and no service is scheduled at this time.
