Galen W. Helmbrecht Jr., 61, of Helena joined his family in heaven December 10, 2011 due to complications from diabetes._x000D_
Galen, Jr. was born November 9, 1950 in Helena, Montana, to Galen (Tiny) and Ruby Helmbrecht. The small family moved to Lewistown in 1957 where it quickly expanded to include his three brothers Wayne, Jim and George. Galen led his little brothers in many adventures but fishing on Spring Creek is a favorite. Their mom (Nanny) would sometimes join them and to Galen’s chagrin she usually caught the biggest fish even though she used a tiny pole. The family moved to Harlowton in the mid 1960’s. It was there that his Dad taught him many of the skills he would use all of his adult life including car repair, carpentry, and wiring. In the Harlowton area no one was surprised to see Galen, Jr. follow his dad out of the Montana Power truck during a power outage late at night or on the weekend._x000D_
As an adult in Harlowton, Galen, Jr. worked as a mechanic at Johnson & Beley Ford and then as a custodian for the school district. In his spare time he enjoyed volunteering with the Harlowton Fire Department as well as hunting, fishing, and golfing._x000D_
Galen, Jr later moved to Helena to be closer to his family. He went to work at the Helena School District as a custodian at C.R. Anderson School. He made many friends among the staff and truly enjoyed his work._x000D_
Galen, Jr bought his home in East Helena where he spent many hours taking care of his beautiful yard. However, that was only when he wasn’t helping someone else work on their car or make repairs to their home, or just helping them out of a jam. His kind and generous spirit helped many family members and friends without expectation of anything in return._x000D_
Galen’s kindness extended to his pets that filled his life with delight. His cat companions through the years included Fred, Shadow and Patches._x000D_
Galen’s death leaves a hole in our hearts. We thought we had many more years of playing golf, fishing, and just hanging out. “We love you big brotherâ€._x000D_
Galen, Jr is survived by his brothers Wayne (Cheryl), Jim and George Helmbrecht; Aunts Mary Laible, Velma Morton, and Verna (Williams) Gresh; and, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends._x000D_
Galen was preceded in death by his loving parents Ruby and Galen (Tiny) Helmbrecht, Sr., Uncle Mel Short, Aunt Willia Helmbrecht._x000D_

So sorry to hear the news of the passings of Galen the younger on Saturday and Will(i)a prior to that.
Galen was such a steady, evenkeeled fellow. I am impressed by the good neighbor he had become to those around him in East Helena and the kindnesses he often lent to those around him.
