Gwendolyn Sylvia Hanson

Gwendolyn S. Hanson, 73, of Helena passed away September 18, 2012 at St. Vincent Healthcare, Billings, Montana. She was born August 12, 1939 to Clarence and Ione (Todd) Hoge at Landusky, Montana. Gwen attended and graduated from Simms High School in 1959. She married Stanley Hanson. Gwen and Stan lived many places but settled in Helena in 1969. They built their home in Birdseye, raised four kids, many animals and were friends to many.

Gwen was a member of the Helena Nazarene Church and the Church Quilt Guild. She loved creating stained glass masterpieces, sewing, crafting, baking, canning, woodwork and surprising family with her homemade creations. She raised chickens, turkeys, sheep and bottle fed a baby pig named “Jenny”. She enjoyed doing family dinner and sharing recipes. She loved a good joke and had a fun sense of humor. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Mary Grams.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Stanley of Helena; daughter Dennie (Curt) Barnekoff, Havre, sons Kent (Desiree) Hanson, Robert (Karleen) Hanson and Corey (Sheri) Hanson all of Helena. Her brother Ben Hoge, Choteau and sisters Beverly Stone, Helena and Cheryl Besich, Ft. Shaw. She is also survived by her grandchildren Derrick (Ashley) Barnekoff, Whitney Barnekoff, Masha Barnekoff, Alyssa (Mike) Tappe, Cody Hanson, Jackie (Mikol) Felber, Katie (Alex) Jardon, Chris Hanson, LeRoy Hanson and Kenny Hanson, great grandchildren, Zander Barnekoff and Robbie Felber.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Monday, September 24, 2012 at Helena Nazarene Church, 117 Valley Drive. Graveside committal will follow at Montana State Veterans Cemetery.
