“Mr.” Dale was my seventh grade teacher at Paxson Grade School in Missoula in 1954, and I remember him fondly. Always stern, but fair. The world will miss this fine man.

Hal and Virginia are my Godparents and as a child visiting their home was mesmerizing to me and their daughters were amazing when I would get to see them. During my 8th grade year Hal switched places from Meadow Hill to a grade school on the other side of town (Whittier perhaps). Our school bused us to that school for career training and a couple of us decided to walk to a convenience store to get some candy. That was a violation and we ended up in the principal’s office. The only time I went to the principal’s office and it was Hal behind the desk! My horror has never been forgotten!
Thank you for my special memories and thank you for being special friends to my parents and grandparents!

My dad (the late Bob Wolf) loved coming back to Dillon to visit with Hal and Virginia. I was able to accompany him on his last visit to Dillon. They were an important part of his life. Hal always asked how my father was doing any time he saw me. He was a very likeable fellow. My favorite saying in times like these is: When you love someone, you can still hear their laughter after they are gone.” May your upcoming difficult months be filled with the sound of Hal’s laughter. -Shelli Schuett

To: Paulette, Ginny Lee and the whole Dale family
What a blessing your dad (Uncle) was to Betty & me and the whole Basolo family. He was like a third son to my mom & dad. What a sense of humor and a mischievous and inquiring mind. Visits were always a total joy. He was one of a kind and we all loved him and Virginia very much.
He lived life to the fullest and did it “My Way” as the song goes. He was a special person and will be missed by us all. Rest in peace my friend.

Tom and I are so sad to see the passing of this wonderful man. We got a chance to stay at Belle Canyon during a week a few years back, and it was one of our most treasured memories. Hal taught us both how to drive a backhoe, how to carry pipe into the mine (we had no clue how dangerous that was!), and how to drive an ATV. We had an utter blast, and Tom’s only regret was that he didn’t get a chance to use dynamite.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of huge loss. We loved that big, bold, loving and optimistic soul so much!!!

I am so sorry for your family’s loss. I was in Mr Dale’s 8th grade class at Paxson ’58 – ’59. Prayers for him and for all of you.

I am a CNA, and I had the pleasure of working with Hal for a few months. He was easily my favorite person at the facility. He’d always have a smile for me, and even on his bad days it didn’t take much to cheer him up. He was a fantastic man, and I am so lucky to have worked with him. Nothing made him happier than when Virginia would come in to visit, you could see his eyes light up whenever he saw her. I always told him that I hoped my love lasted like that. I remember dancing with him when he would play his music every night, and how happy he was when he began improving. I have worked with hundreds of people, and Hal will always have a place in my heart. He felt like a father to me, and knowing how bad I’m torn up about this, I can’t even imagine what Paulette and Virginia are feeling right now. All of my wishes and prayers are with them right now.
