Harley McDaniel, 82, of Helena, MT passed away on January 27, 2014 of natural causes.
The funeral service will be held at the Fort Harrison Service Club on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to come share memories and stories of Harley’s unwavering friendship and feisty outlook on life.
Harley was born in Browns Valley, Minnesota on July 22, 1931 to Edna and Everett McDaniel. His early truck driving career brought him to Montana where he met Olene Thronson; the two were married in 1954 and had 5 children over the course of their marriage, which lasted for over 50 years.
Harley worked tirelessly throughout his life- including his service with the US army, and 33 years with the phone company. After retirement Harley and Olene traveled extensively, and have visited every state in the continental US. Harley also enjoyed a great number of other personal interests including hunting, four wheeling, mechanic work, stock car racing (which earned him the name “Hurricane Harley”), and fishing- most notably his annual fishing trips to Fort Peck Lake.
Harley is preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother Jerry, and his wife Olene. He is survived by his 5 children, Kathy Anderson, Harley Allen McDaniel, Jr. (Beverly), Lois Flesch (Gary), Joyce Walczak (Jim), Jim McDaniel (Pam), his grandchildren Chris, Matt, Kali, Samie, and Bridger, his great-grandchildren Dean and Christie, and his special companion Mary Lou.
Donations can be made the St Peters Cancer Unit or Hospice of St Peters.
