Myrtle “Irene” Saltness Peyer passed away peacefully on December 5, 2015 at the age of 91. Irene was born on February 17, 1924, the daughter of Ole and Elizabeth Saltness. Irene grew up in Robinson, ND with her sisters Louise Sloan & Ethel Hagseth, and brothers Bertrum “Buck”
Reese and Dale Saltness. As a child, Irene could be found playing at the local train tracks jumping from boxcar to boxcar even though her mother often told her it would kill her if she fell. When her mother’s warnings were not heeded she ultimately fell and assumed she was must be dead. Luckily for us, she was fine and was blessed to live a long and wonderful life.
Irene met her husband, Nathan “Bud” Peyer, at an early age. Bud lived with the Saltness family for a time after his parents passed away. Irene’s uncles would often pay her three cents to take Bud down and sit on him; which of course she did to save money for her ever growing love of shopping.
Bud and Irene married on August 31, 1951 and lived in Fargo and Finley, ND, before moving to Three Forks, MT in 1971. Irene always spoke fondly of the “old country” of North Dakota but gradually came to love Montana. Irene, her brother Dale, and her father Ole were all blessed with beautiful singing voices. Irene studied music for a short time in Minnesota and sang for many events through the years. Although she handled the jitters during her performance well, her husband would almost pass out from holding his breath while she sang.
Bud and Irene had four daughters; Dale (Ken) Bahr, Jan (Rick) Day, Cindy (Glen) Hart and Kristi Peyer. From that time on Bud would tell her, “See what you’ve started!!” Not only did Irene get to see her grandchildren Lisa Narum (Ryan) Shea, Chad (Chris) Day, Brandon (Lindsey) Day, Jennell Day (Brant) Humphrey, Kyle Hart and Megan Hart, grow to be wonderful adults, she was also blessed to know and love her five great grandchildren; Brody Shea, Grace and Gabriel Day & Kale and Kaydia Day.
Irene is survived by her husband of 64 years, and her brother & sister-in-law, Dale & Violet Saltness of Three Forks. She is also survived by her children, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
Additionally the Peyer family would like to especially thank Elkhorn Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care, kind words, and never ending assistance.
We miss you Mom but will forever see your life continue in the family you’ve created.

Cheryl Dunham says
It was over 40 years ago that I last saw Uncle Bud and Aunt Irene, but I’ve held onto the hope of one day seeing them again. I didn’t know either of them well, but I loved them both and I know that my Mom (Frances Peyer Dunham) loved them very much. My heart goes out to you in your loss.
