Jalia Bernice Hilderman, 72, of Helena, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Son Heaven Assisted Care Facility after a long battle with cancer. Bernice, as she was known to her family and friends, was born on July 19, 1941 in Shelly, Idaho. Throughout her childhood, the family traveled all over the United States and Montana. Bernice’s father was a truck driver and constantly moved to different locations to find work; she lived in Arkansas, Texas, North Dakota and numerous places in Montana and attended 22 different schools.
Over the years, Bernice worked many jobs such as police dispatcher and secretary but most of her adult life she waited tables as a server. 10 years ago she found her true calling as a Senior Companion for Son Heaven Assisted Care Facility. A job she truly loved.
Her parents, Emil and Bertha Saeman and long- time residents of Helena, preceded Bernice in death. Del-Ray Saeman, her only sibling, lives in Great Falls, MT. Bernice had four children, two boys and two girls. Lonny Streeter was the oldest and passed away 14 years ago. She is survived by her three children Linda Streeter, Patty (Pace) Wilbanks, and Jim Pace, as well as her son-in-law Brett Wilbanks and daughter-in-law Deana Pace. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In her final years, her dog, Teddy, was her best friend and companion.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Big Sky Cremations in Helena, Montana. The funeral will be held at Twichel Funeral Home, 314 North Rodney St. on Saturday, 27 July at the 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Son Heaven Assisted Care Facility or Frontier Home Health and Hospice.
