Jerry was born in Lubbock, Texas on July 24th, 1953 to Jack and Bobby Crawford. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1971. He told his mother the day he met a lady named Barbara that she was the one he would marry and a few years later on June 11, 1980 he did exactly that. After their marriage, he moved his family 13 times in the first 5 years looking for a place he could settle. Those moves included a few in and around Lubbock Texas, then on a whim they sold all of their possessions that didn’t fit into 4 suitcases and flew to Honolulu Hawaii. About a year later they saw a television commercial selling land in the beautiful mountains of Montana so they were off on their next adventure. Unfortunately the move from Hawaii to Helena Montana took place in January where the family arrived to 40 degrees below zero weather. _x000D_

He was a hard worker and a “Jack of all trades”. He worked at various jobs including installing garage doors, working in the Texas oil fields, managing condos in Hawaii and finally retiring from the East Helena Post Office in 2000. After retirement he and his wife decided to continue their traveling adventures and spent four years living in a motor home and traveling all over the USA including 2 ½ months in Alaska. Health issues forced them to settle down again and they returned to Helena. He worked as a volunteer at St Peters Cardiopulmonary Rehab for over 10 years where he made many wonderful friends. _x000D_

In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking. He remodeled a kitchen, built furniture, a grandfather clock and made a rocking chair and rocking horse for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and taking long drives in the mountains with his wife. _x000D_

During his last few years he spent a lot of time on the St Peters Oncology unit where he was treated like family. The staff on the oncology ward, Cancer treatment center as well as the janitors and food service workers all knew him by name and did numerous things to make him feel special when he was there. _x000D_

I was one of the Respiratory Therapists that took care of Jerry at St. Petes. The Respiratory staff (as well as the nursing staff, I’m sure) want to extend our condolences. We will miss Jerry a lot, because of his sense of humor and personality. We hated seeing him sick in the hospital, but we liked seeing him because of his sense of humor. He will be missed by all. – Ed Meardon, Respiratory Therapist at St. Peter’s Hospital.
