Joann H. McCloskey Edens
The morning of April 11, 2023, Joann passed away at her earthly home in E. Helena, Montana after a lengthy illness. Her son, Angelo, was her caregiver the last few months.
Joann was born June 20, 1939, in Havre, MT to Ingeman and Julia Svendsen. She joined a 6 year older sister, Joyce. Alice, 2 years younger, and Darlene, 4 years younger, completed the family.
She grew up, graduating from Hogeland High School. She attended Business College in Great Falls, MT. She worked at First National Bank in Havre, MT. She met the “Love of her Life,” Thomas McCloskey. They were married June 20, 1958. Born of this union were Lorene, Zona, Angelo, and Kristene. Tom was a teacher and coach in Lodge Grass and Gilford, MT and Eureka, NV for a few years. They moved to Reno, NV where Tom was a judge with the State Juvenile Dept. Joann also worked there as a secretary. They bought a small ranch in Hazen, NV and commuted to Reno for their jobs. They enjoyed raising their family and grandchildren. She worked various jobs as a cashier at a casino, clerk at a ranch and home store, helped cook for ranch hands when the owners were gone, and at a school cafeteria. After Tom’s death, Joann moved to E. Helena, MT in August 1997. She married Leon Edens, Sept. 28, 2004. Leon died September 8, 2022. Joann was a very caring and giving person, wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by her children Lorene, Zona (Greg), Angelo, Kristene (Devin) Welborn; sister, Alice (Buzz) Beto; grandchildren, Anthony, Thea, Tisha; 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Joyce and Darlene; husbands, Tom McCloskey and Leon Edens; brother-in-law, Bill Chagnon; and nephew, Michael Chagnon.
Graveside services by Big Sky Cremations will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 7100 N Montana Ave, Helena, MT, at Noon on Saturday, May 13, 2023. Lunch after the service will be held at the Beto home, 7230 N Montana Ave in Helena. Everyone is welcome.
