Our heartfelt sympathies go out to John’s family, Gary, Bob and Jan, his extended family, as well as his very close friends. John and I met in January of 1976. John was a confident young man and was the student leader of our Air Force training squadron in Biloxi Mississippi. I envied his “swagger”. We were both then stationed in Omaha Nebraska in the summer of 1976. We had many good times during our formative years and he taught me a lot about achieving in life. John enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and studied in college while working his full time job in Air Force Intelligence. I got to know all of John’s high school friends through his colorful stories….You all know what I mean. We traveled to Bozeman in 1978, on leave, where I met his family and some of his friends . We were both discharged in the fall of 1979. John was the Best Man in the wedding for my wife and I in 1981. Subsequently, our time together in person was limited. We talked several times each year thereafter. Our conversations always just seemed to pick up where we left off previously and flowed freely. We’d have lengthy conversations about nothing, but would laugh, and I always felt happier afterwards. I’m sure many of you had similar conversations with John. He was an eager listener concerning the lives of my three daughters. The past three years he has been an avid college soccer fan supporting my youngest daughter who plays for Johns Hopkins University. We talked/texted twice a week while watching her games on the webcasts, or while I was at the stadium. They made the Final Four this year but lost and we talked about our anticipation for next years season just three weeks ago.
Now my heart aches for the loss of a dear friend. I’m sure yours also feels empty. Was there something I should have said? We would all love to have another conversation with our son, brother, nephew and friend. I pray that we all are able to have an Angel of Mercy find us and help us through this difficult time. I pray that John finds peace in the Lord.
Dr. Dan Lundberg (honored to have been John’s friend)

What a lovely tribute to John. Yes, he spoke of you & your family in our recent conversations. John’s happy memories will live on with each of us contributing to his apt story telling! I wish I could figure out the photo part of this as I have some from the family reunion of 2010 and my most recent visit in September of 2014. I think his Uncle Tom has an arm around him now ~ angels care!

Jeannene Maas says
So sorry to hear of John’s passing. He and I had many great chats back in the days of “title-land”. He had a great heart, and there was more than once he helped me through some hard times. Whenever I think of John, two stories always come to mind — how he helped me find a great job at a critical point in my life; and how he helped my son his first year of Little League. Mike was all excited about learning to be a catcher, and John took took him aside and explained to him the importance of ‘masculine protection’, and how to take care of himself. Still makes me laugh to remember Mike’s reaction, but now I’m laughing with tears in my eyes. Rest in peace, John.

For John’s family…. my contact with John was during some of the worst times of my life and he always demonstrated acceptance, interest and kindness and a complete lack of judgment. I am sure he is at peace now, away from any challenges that he experienced on this earth. Sending you care and well wishes… please be a gentle with yourselves as is possible.

Laurie Blakley says
I am so sorry to hear about John’s passing. I hadn’t seen John for quite a while. He was always so helpful to me in real estate. He was my go to guy when I had title questions. He was also my neighbor 25 years ago. We lived in the same apartment building and when I came out in the morning he had usually scraped the frost off my windows. He was always thoughtful and helpful like that.
Interesting, that he and I were also in high school at the same time. I didn’t know him then but when Bozeman Senior High had 30 year get together for our three classes it was fun to see John there.
We will miss him but he is in a much better place and knows that he is loved. God Bless you.
Laurie Blakley
