All my family and I will miss Judy so much – she became a part of our family after she moved to Helena, sharing many holiday meals with us and sharing her kindness, love and friendship with us.
We weren’t a part of each other’s lives until she moved to Helena and we reconnected. I wish I had known her for all of those years. From some of the stories she shared, I believe she was a very remarkable, vibrant woman with a zest for life. I’m happy she was able to have some fun adventures, but feel bad that she won’t be making her trip to Panama. She recently told me that when she got stronger again, she was going to become more politically active. When she believed in something, she did something about it. I admired that about her.
I’m sure there will be many moments along the way that will flag fond memories of Judy for me. I had one this morning when the Today Show was talking about this new season of “The Voice†– Judy was a big fan of the show.
We especially had fun on our quest for the best burger in the Helena area and going for “cheap tacos†on Monday nights at the Valley Hub. Shortly after she moved her, some of my family and I took her out to York Bar for a hamburger and I remember her saying, “you drive THIS FAR for a hamburgerâ€, but those ended up being her favorites of all we sampled.
She lived in four different homes during the time she was in Helena and so reminded me of Grandma Thompson – remodeling, residing in her home in the North valley, building a deck, she could do it all. And for those of you who know, a comparison to Grandma Thompson is a very high compliment.
She demonstrated a courageous strength in dealing with the health challenges she’s faced these last years.
I appreciate the opportunity to become reacquainted with this cousin that I knew as a child.

Cousin Judy was a capable and determined spirit. She loved her animals with all of her heart. Because I live in Arizona I only saw her about once a year when we came to Helena to visit my mom (Gladine) and my sister (Ti). She was always busy with a project at her home, or planning another trip or involved in something. She will be greatly missed by a lot of her family and friends. She often talked about how much she loved and admired our Grandma Thompson, her Aunt Curly and many others in the family. Tana Thompson (Prescott Valley, AZ).

We got to know Judy when she first moved to Helena from Seattle about 10 years ago. She moved in across the street from us and very soon became one of our most treasured friends. We admired her spunk, athletic ability, love of animals, and her creativity with her homes, lawns and gardens. She was a true friend, loving and caring, We will miss you Judy, until we meet again.

It was fun to grow up around cousins, and a special time when Judy and her siblngs lived with us for a couple of years. We always had someone to play with! And Judy and I were in the same grade so did a lot of things together, like take tap dance lessons, go to weekly youth meetings with friends at their church, play with their cousins (thus my shirt-tail cousins, the McKeevers), etc. Tag in the dark, cops and robbers, annie-I-over and such outdoor games. Then my Mom taught all of us to embroider (it was too hot to play outside that day!) There were years we didn’t see each other much, but she started coming to see John and I in Arizona and we enjoyed that. I took her to see the fountain in Fountain Hills (tallest continuously running fountain in U.S.); while we waited to see it do its hourly thing, she saw a Coldstone Creamery and we shared a special sundae she bought – wow! I found a new love, so I remember that well. Had never heard of Coldstone Creamery before that. I will always remember her love for my mother, her 2nd Mom, and how much Mom enjoyed her visits. Cousins are special. Cousin Patty Van Haele Seader

Dear Friends and Family,
Though I never got to meet Cousin Judy in person, I heard about the way she tried to help everyone whenever she saw a need, and could tell by the way she encouraged me (when I was so discouraged) in trying to get out my part in the Thompson Family Newsletter 2012 that she was an extremely loving and positive person to be around. I’m very proud to have had her for my cousin. Here is what I emailed her (below) and her answer (top).
Gloria .. I am not ready to go .. and it will be soooo BIG .. it will take some time .. so do not fret my cousin and when and if you find time .. send me something .. as the newsletter will not be the same if I don’t have something from you!!!!

I’ve tried and tried, but the last two hours or more have been non-productive on trying to send you a Thanksgiving picture of most of us, with a letter I spent the last hour pouring my heart into, just to lose it – when I tried to send the pic with it! *heart-broken*
Go ahead and send the Newsletter without mine this time, if you’re ready to..
Love,
Gloria
