In Memory Of

Karen Morningstar Jorgenson

August 18, 1947 – December 8, 2018

Karen Morningstar Jorgenson died on August 12, 2018 in Helena, MT due to complications from dementia. She was 70.

Karen was born on August 18, 1947 in Washington, D.C. to her parents Ethel and Bernard Morningstar.

Karen pursued various art mediums her entire adult life. She lived in Montana for nearly 40 years, but began painting in St. Paul, Buffalo & Minneapolis, Minnesota. Being a stay at home mom of three led to the time needed to work on her art. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Karen is survived by her two daughters, Dawn Rowling (Wynn Randall) and Karie MacDonald (KC) along with her five grandchildren; Justin and Jarret Rowling, Kade and Kody MacDonald and Tyrell Randall. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Bernard Morningstar and her son Michael Jorgenson.

Karen will be placed to rest in a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Butte Humane Society. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.helenafunerals.com

I was so shocked to read of Karen’s passing. I met her while I was in graduate school in Missoula. We were both non-traditional students returning to school in midlife. We socialized and kept in touch following school, although I hadn’t talked to her for some time now. As was typical, I did receive one of her homemade Christmas cards this past year. As usual, it was a beautiful example of her artistic talent. But, she never wrote anything, just signed her name each year. I will never forget going with her one night to a Karaoke session in Missoula. I had never heard her sing before and I was so surprised to hear such a professional, full volume coming out of such a petite woman! She could really sing. Your mother was talented in so many areas of her life. She spoke well of you, her children, and it is clear that she raised some great kids. My condolences go out to you now as you mourn your loss. May your fond memories of your mother comfort you at this time.

My Mother moved into The Legacy about the same time as Karen. We enjoyed meeting her and Mom shared a table for meals with Karen. We wish to send your family our prayers for your loss. Our deepest sympathy, Helen & Kathryn Ellis

My mom, Frances Hukill and I were so shocked to see Karen’s obituary in the Western News. Mom stood right next to your mom singing soprano in the Libby Methodist Church choir, until your mom moved to Missoula. Karen once told my mom that she was like a 2nd mom to her, listening to Karen through some hard times in Libby. Mom was 21 years older than Karen. Mom loved getting her beautiful hand painted Christmas cards every year, in which she has kept everyone. She was very talented artist. Your mom always had a beautiful voice and is now singing in the heavenly choir. She is now with your brother for eternity. We hope you may always remember the good times with her.
