In Memory Of

Lois L. (Callahan) Bokovoy, age 89, of East Helena

Lois L. (Callahan) Bokovoy passed away on July 9, 2024 from natural causes at her home in East Helena, Montana.  She requested to not have any services and will be buried in Fort Benton with her husband of 47 years, Elmer Bokovoy.

Born July 2, 1935 in Sunnyside, Washington, she moved with the family to Arizona, Oregon and Wisconsin before settling in Great Falls, Montana in 1948.  After graduating from Great Falls High School in 1954, she married Elmer Bokovoy on August 20, 1955 and moved to Fort Benton, Montana, where she would live for 50 years.

She worked as the Deputy Clerk of Court for Chouteau County for over 20 years.  Following her retirement, she worked in the bakery at the Price Rite grocery store.  She was very active in the community supporting local businesses and school activities. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.  She always put others above herself in all that she did.

In 2005, she moved to East Helena to be close to her grandchildren, Christopher and Hayley.  She absolutely loved spending time with them, picking them up from school and eating with the family every night. When Chris and Hayley moved through each grade in school, she would volunteer in their classrooms and the teachers and staff really enjoyed her contributions. She loved putting together the take home books the kindergarteners used to learn how to read.  She loved it so much she continued to do this for many years, even long after Chris and Hayley were graduated.

She truly was an “Angel on Earth” and touched the lives of so many people during her 89 years.  We were so blessed to have her in our lives and to call her Mom and Gramma or as the kids nicknamed her “G-Ma.”

She is survived by her sons Ryan (Kristen) Bokovoy of Helena and Kevin (Brenda) Bokovoy of East Helena and the loves of her life, her grandchildren Christopher Bokovoy of Bozeman and Hayley Bokovoy of East Helena.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, parents Fletcher and Ena (States) Callahan, sisters Bonnie, Neva and Kay.

In lieu of flowers or cards, perform a random act of kindness, donate time to your communities or schools and take care of your families.  That is the best way to honor Lois and keep her spirit alive.

Lois & I shared a birthday and when we were “just down the street neighbors” , she would always surprise me with her fabulous fudge brownies! Her kindness to our family and allowing us to share in her family is a treasured memory. Ryan and Kevin, you were her heart. My sympathies to all the family.

Lois was one of the kindest people, she befriended me on the playground when she was watching Hayley and my son Jack was not in school yet. So incredibly patient and loving. When I would see her out through the years, she would always have a kind word and a smile for me. She was such a sweet lady.

Lois was the sweetest lady, her smile and generous spirit filled the room when she entered. I got to know her at Prickly Pear Elementary when she volunteered. I am so sorry that she couldn’t live forever as I am sure she will be greatly missed by her family. God Bless you Lois!!!

I was shocked to learn of Lois’s passing as I had called just a week before on her 89th birthday and she sounded upbeat as ever. There has never been a better friend for the past sixty years and I truly will miss her. My heart goes out to Ryan, Kevin and their families as well as to the many people whose lives were touched by such a sweet and caring individual.

I just found this out. I realized that she passed when we were out of town, otherwise I would have sent a message earlier. What a treasured lady. She was always so kind and supportive of me and welcomed me to Life Point Church, one of the main reasons I stayed. To Chris, Hayley, Kevin and Brenda my heart is with you at this time. My life has been blessed by you and our sweet Lois!!
