Mary “Paula” Hubbert passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones on November 13th, 2022.
Paula was born on December 7, 1948 in Jackson, Mississippi to Sampson and Mayme Hubbert. Her father, unfortunately died in a car wreck when she was a young girl. Her mom moved her and her older brother, Sam and younger sister, Patti to Montana. She then remarried and had 7 more children; Jackie, Beth, Kathy, Dan, Max, Dixie, and George. Paula spent her younger years growing up in Walkerville and Butte with her siblings, whom she helped raise.
Paula married Mike Murphy in 1968 in Salmon, Id. They had 5 beautiful children; Mayme, Sara, Eli, Molly and Camille. They divorced, but remained friends and good parents, and always kept a love for each other. Mike died in 2006.
She worked and attended various colleges in Montana and Washington, all while raising kids. She eventually earned a masters degree in psychology from Carroll College. Paula spent her life’s work helping others. She was a therapist and case manager for the mentally ill and disabled, worked with troubled youth and pregnant teens, finally ending her career and retired as a case manager for social security.
She started a relationship with Robert Thompson “Grandpa Bob” in 2000. They lived a simple retired life until Bob passed in 2017
She was a loving and supportive mother, never missing a performance or game. She loved deeply, passionately and with her whole heart.
But, her favorite thing in her whole life was being a Nana and spoiling her grandchildren. She has 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; Ernie, Ryan, Makayla, Shanna, Anthony, Leah, David, Allysa, Isaiah, Ava, Ashlee, Mary, Jack, Logan, Jackson, Kingston and Bellamy.
In her final years she enjoyed reading, sewing, watching her shows, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was taken care of by her family and shown just how much she is loved and adored.
She is preceded in death by her parents Sampson and Mayme, Mike Murphy and Robert Thompson, her sister Patti Hubbert, and her beloved little queen, Makayla Shurtliff.
Please make a donation in her honor to any breast cancer foundation as she was a proud two-time breast cancer survivor.
Our family wants to give a big thank you to Melinda and Leigh Ann from Compassus and Big Sky Cremations for the compassionate care you gave our mom.

I am so sorry for your very deep loss. I know that your mom was met on the other side of those pearly gates by a raucous and rowdy crowd of amazing and loving souls. I love you all and send you my deepest sympathy. May her soul rest peacefully.(Or whatever wild women do when we get to heaven)

Your mom always accepted me, acknowledged me and welcomed me at family gatherings. I always admired her wit and wisdom and her love for her family and your dad even though they were divorced. She has only changed form and lives in each of you and those whose lives she touched.

I could never express how much I am going to miss my mom. She lived a long, beautiful life and was so very loved. Some of my favorite memories of my mom are going clothes shopping and going with her to the beauty salon. She loved to spoil us and make sure we were looking good. Christmas is also a good one. Her love language was giving and she did a lot of it. She was always dressed up and had her nails and hair done. She made Christmas an event. She loved sewing and was so talented with that machine. She made everyone masks during Covid and was so proud of them. My mom was also a little mysterious and had this whole young life I’ll never know. I love that about her too.

I had the pleasure of knowing Paula through my work with public assistance. She was my ‘go to’ person at SSA. She was a consumate professional and I feel very fortunate to have known her. She knew that system inside and out and there was no long wait time while she was retrieving the info needed. We were all a little sad when she retired but very happy for her.

I got the opportunity to know Paula for just 5 years l, but that was so much more than enough to know that she was one of a kind. She accepted me like I was her own grandchild and made sure I knew she appreciated and loved me. She was an amazing woman, always quick to smile and laugh, and had a love for family like no other. I know you are happy at home now. Nala is still doing great at her mountain home. Thank you for all of your love and support, rest in peace.
