Melvin Thomas Nelson left this earthly domain on September 19, 2022. He was the youngest of four children, born to Thomas and Lillian Nelson on August 29, 1942. He grew up on Helena’s west side, attending Kessler Elementary School and Helena High School. Following his high school graduation in 1961, he enlisted in the US Navy. He later received a medical discharge. For a few years he drove for Associated Foods and school bus for Bud Sutheimer and George Hall. Later, he worked for
many years in the Carroll College Maintenance Department. In the years preceding his retirement, Mel worked at Good Samaritan. Mel married Linda McCurdie in Helena on December 19, 1970. Following their marriage, they lived in Bozeman before moving to a ranch near Wolf Creek. They were blessed with three wonderful children, Shannon, Shawn and Brian. Mel was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty. He is survived by a daughter,
Shannon Grasmick (Charlie), sons, Shawn (Amanda), Brian (Heather) and grandchildren, Ryan, Adam, Ashlyn and Tyler Grasmick, Kody Nelson and Hailey Nelson.
A short service is scheduled for 1:00 pm on October 4th, 2022 at the Fort Harrison Cemetery.

Mel drove bus for my dad. I have many great memories of this guy.I have spoken with Mel a few times in recent years and always reminded ourselves of the good times. He will be missed. My condolences to the family.
