Michael J. Guerin, Jr. MD, known by family and friends as Mick, passed away in Helena, MT in his home peacefully at 78 years old.
Mick grew up in Omaha, NE. He graduated from Creighton Preparatory High School, he attended University of Montana, graduated from University of Nebraska with a medical degree, and did his residency at University of Kansas Medical Center.
Mick was an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist and a Head and Neck Surgeon. He practiced in Tyndall, SD, Longview, WA, Pueblo, CO, and Huron, SD.
He had three children, Michael, Kevin, and Nettie, and he was so proud of them. He had nine grandchildren that he loved – even from a distance. Mick had one great grandchild who made him laugh. His wife, Ann, was his heart and soul.
Mick lived life to the fullest! He loved to hunt and fish, and he taught his skills to his children. They will continue the sports with him watching from above! He was happiest when following big-running bird-dogs through big open country. Mick enjoyed fishing bonefish in the Florida Keys – his favorite was “tailer at twilight”. He was happiest in the outdoors!
Mick loved his wife, Ann, the most of everything in life. She was at his side traveling, hunting, fishing, planting trees, redecorating houses, and whatever else he decided to do. They were married 57 years and rarely apart.
Mick is survived by his wife, Ann Marie Guerin, two sons, Michael J (Bridgette) Guerin III of Big Pine Key, FL, Kevin Michael (Bridget) Guerin of Helena, MT, and a daughter, Nettie Marie Guerin of Lake Isabella, MI. His grandchildren, Loren (Evan) Barrett, Elle Marie Guerin, Gage Guerin, Gunner Guerin, Morgan Bussler, Maddox Bussler, Hani Socolovitch, and Maizy Socolovitch. One great granddaughter, Kalista Barrett.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Josephine Guerin, his parents-in-law, Leo and Ann Manthei, long-time friends, and many beloved hunting dogs. His grandson, Miles Bussler, was waiting to greet him at heaven’s door.
Due to Covid-19 we will not have a funeral at this time, but we will be planning a Celebration of Life in the near future.
Cards and Condolences can be sent to: Ann Guerin and Family, 2515 3 Bars Drive, East Helena, MT 59635

Loved his family, his outdoors, his Montana. He was a devoted husband. He had filled his bucket list , and now joins family and friends in Heaven. Love you Mick!
Mary Manthei says
There are many memories I could share, but what is the powerful is the way he loved my sister. How he watched her doing her crafts, or walked with her and the dogs, or shared in her passion for remodeling each home. It was a love affair stretching over 6 decades. Thank you, Mick.

Mick’s father and ours served together in WWII. In the following years the Guerins would come to visit from Omaha to our home in Minnesota and loved fishing. By the time Ann was 16, Mick was smitten. I remember the beautiful letters he wrote to her in his unique script. She treasured them. Their love story spanned his becoming a doctor, many homes and dogs, 3 children, grandchildren and a first great- grandchild. He loved hunting and fishing but it had become too difficult this past year. His wish was that when it was time to go, he could go quickly and at home. And that, as most things in his life, he did it his way.

My first memory of Mick was when I went to Nebraska to help with little Michael who fell off his trike and cut his head pretty badly. At the same time a tornado warning was issued and we were forced into the basement. I held the flashlight while Dr. Guerin stitched his wound. I was beyond impressed by his calm demeanor and stitching skills in such a terrifying moment.

Mick, Dr. Guerin, was a very special friend to our family when he lived in Huron, SD. My 2 girls thought of he and Ann as extra grandparents. We spent many wonderful, fun days at their farms. We planted many tress, took care of their animals (when they were away from home) and just hung out. I was very fortunate to get to see both of them earlier this year when I was in Arizona for a visit. My girls and my hearts are broken. We talked about them frequently. He will be missed by our families. Love to all. Phyllis Jones and families.

Hello, I am Lynn M. Briggs, of Grand Junction, Colo. I worked with Mick at the Brandise Garden Center, on 72nd Street in Omaha, in the late 1950’s. Mick had a tattoo of a star on his left shoulder. I was the one who put it on for him. There was an athlete he admired who also had the same tattoo & he wanted one like it. I also introduced him to cherry pie with a slice of cheese on top. We would go across the street from the garden shop to the bowling alley (daily) and enjoy the cheese topped pie & a cup of coffee. Mick shared his experiences in Montana,, fighting fires& hiking into a lake that he named.. Mick was a GREAT friend and we shared many outdoor intrests. So sorry to hear of his passing. Sincerely. Lynn

I worked in Dr Guerin’s office in Pueblo, Colorado in 1983-84. His patients loved how kind and personal he was to them. He and Ann let me, my oldest son and two of my friends stay one weekend at their cabin in the mountains. I remember when Dr. Guerin went to Europe. He was so excited to drive ‘fast’ on the Audubon. Rest In Peace doctor.
Ann Guerin says
Remember him talking about you. He loved planting trees and shrubs and it was one of his many hobbies.
