Minnie D. Elsasser was born March 7, 1933 to parents Russell and Eleanor (Rheiman) Strohl at their family home in East Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe) Pennsylvania.
She was raised in the Carbon County, PA area and lived there until moving to Florida with her retired husband, Lloyd Elsasser (deceased). She then lived in Florida and Pennsylvania until moving to Helena, Montana to be with family. She was a resident at Eagles Manor for several years. She was employed in the garment industry and later with the citrus industry until her retirement.
Minnie enjoyed bingo, going to lunch, and shopping with her family. She enjoyed crocheting and would make and give away baby blankets and lap blankets for the Veterans’ Hospital. She was very enthusiastic about celebrating Christmas with her family. She enjoyed preparing Christmas Boxes for the Samaritans Purse Shoebox Project.
Minnie was preceded in death by four siblings; Russell Strohl, Mickey Mitzen, Margaret Doughty, twin sister Harriet (Carrie) Markell, and her first husband, Thomas A. Sheckler.
Minnie is survived by her daughter Dorothy Ripkey, granddaughter Heather Ripkey, son-in-law Charles Ripkey, along with numerous nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania.
Minnie passed away on September 17th 2014 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena, MT. In lieu of flower, the family requests that donations be made to The Shoebox Project, Samaritans Purse Ministries.
