May 19, 1952 – July 29, 2016 – A Viking returned to Valhalla when Mitch Johnson, husband, father, and friend, died unexpectedly on July 29, 2016. Mitch grew up in Thief River Falls and St James, Minnesota, moved to Montana in 1978, and lived in the Basin and Helena area the rest of his life. Mitch met his soulmate, Tina, at Intermountain Children’s Home in Helena. They built their scenic mountain home in 1983 and were married in 1984. Nothing made him prouder than watching their two beautiful and intelligent children, Zachary and Emma, learn about the world and the people around them. Mitch loved his family, coworkers, and friends with deep and constant benevolence. He will always be remembered for his dedication to his passions, one of which was the children and families he worked with at Intermountain. Mitch and Tina were seminal in the creation of the revolutionary treatment model that Intermountain still uses. He guided hundreds, if not thousands, of children, parents, and staff toward health; directly caring for them in the early years, and then mentoring others during his 35 years of service. We thank God for Mitch’s presence in our lives and he will live forever in our hearts. Mitch is survived by his wife Tina, his children Zachary of Oakland, CA and Emma of Missoula, MT, and his sister Annelle Schofield of St James, MN. The family is grateful to all who have prayed, cried, and provided support of all kinds. Mitch’s Life Celebration will be held at the Johnson home on Saturday August 6th from 3:30 to 7:00 pm, with a brief remembrance at 5:00 PM. Memorials may be made to your preferred charitable organization or sent to Mitch Johnson Memorial Fund, Valley Bank, PO Box 5249, Helena MT 59604.
