Nancy Wood.
Heaven gained an Angel on July 5, 2014 as Nancy Pocha Wood 84, passed away peacefully at St Peter’s hospital surrounded by her famiy. She was born on May 26, 1930 in Helena, MT. She was the youngest of four children born to Alger and Marie Pocha.
She attended schools in Helena and worked all of her life in Helena as a waitress.
In 1946 she married Guiseppi Spotorno and to that union 2 children, Michael and Maria Spotorno were born. The couple later divorced. In 1960 she married Weslie Wood and they had 2 daughters, Betty and Robin Wood.
Nancy was an amazing mother and grandmother, always making sure everyone else was taken care of and her needs/wants always came last. Cooking was her passion, she was the best at it and no one left her home hungry.
In 2009 she was diagnosed with lung cancer and given 3-6 months to live. After seeking further treatment, she was able to have cancer treatment and survived over 5 years. She fought a tough battle to the end. In the last 18 months she survived the heartbreaking death of her youngest daughter Robin, a broken wrist and 2 broken legs, but never complained and always believed she would recover.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sister Ramona, husband Weslie and daughter Robin Wood Delaney.
She is survived by her son Mike (Susan) Spotorno, daughters Maria Davidson, Broomfield, CO, Betty (Ron) Huckins, Son in Law Fred Delaney, grandsons: Mike (Leslie) Spotorno, Ryan Spotorno, Seth and Marcus (Emily) Davidson, Colten (Sarah) Huckins, Jesse (Kami) Huckins and her only granddaughter Jade Huckins Schlater(Mark), all of Helena. Several Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was proud of her Native American heritage, and anxiously awaited the day the Little Shell Tribe would again gain Federal Recognition.
The family would like to thank the amazing caregivers at Apple-Cooney Rehab, Thank-you for taking care of our Mom like she was your own! We would also like to thank Dr. Ross Camidge, Stephanie and the Oncology team at University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Center. You gave us 5 years with our Mom that we would not have otherwise had. She even lived her dream by attending her granddaughter Jade’s wedding last year.
Cremation has taken place and per Mom’s request, no service will be held. A private immediate family memorial will be held at a later date. She did request that anyone who would have attended her funeral either do a random act of kindness or go out of your way to visit someone in need. It broke our hearts to lose her but we know she is no longer in pain and is once again reunited with her daughter Robin.
