In Memory Of

Nathan “Bud” Peyer

February 10, 1925 – January 27, 2018

Nathan LeRoy (Bud) Peyer, born October 2, 1925, would like you to know that on January 27, 2018, after 92 good years, his work here on earth was completed and he is enjoying a long awaited reunion with his family and friends. Bud was born in Robinson, North Dakota to Frank and Ida (Steen) Peyer. As the youngest of 12 children, his parents died when he was still young. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 at the age of 17. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, the American Area Campaign medal, the Philippine Liberation medal, a Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal for his service.

He told us when the USS Hancock refueled other ships he was the one that shot a line over to the other ship partly due to his hunting experience but mostly because no one else would. It was a 45.70 cartridge that kicked so hard it knocked his hat off, especially since at 17 he only weighed 110 pounds. After the war he enrolled in Plumbing and Pipefitting school and taught his children the importance of a good work ethic. He eventually took his G.E.D. test and passed it without ever having to attend the classes showing us the value of education.

Bud met Irene Saltness at an early age when she was given 2 cents from her uncle for taking him down and sitting on him. They eventually were married in Jamestown N.D. in 1951 and had four daughters, Dale(Ken Bahr), Jan (Rick Day), Cindy (Glen Hart) and Kris Peyer. Bud dearly loved his grandchildren, Lisa Narum (Ryan Shea), Chad (Chris) Day, Brandon (Lindsey) Day, Jennell Day Humphrey, Kyle Hart, and Megan Hart and his five great grandchildren, Brody Shea, Grace and Gabe Day, and Kale and Kadia Day. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Violet Saltness. Irene Saltness Peyer, his wife of 64 years, preceded him in death in 2015.

A celebration of Bud’s life will be held February 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain Family Fellowship in Helena, MT. A reception will follow at the church.

Mom and Dad dwell among the angels now. Think of them as living in the hearts of those they touched…for nothing loved is ever lost and they were loved so much.
