Philip B. Johnson, age 85, of Helena, MT, passed away August 16, 2022 of natural causes. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are being held at this time.
He loved the mountains and was an excellent hunter, never missing an elk. And he had the mounted racks to prove it.
Philip and his daughter Tami shared many fascinating experiences as they did most everything together. Tami always said he could be your best friend or your worst enemy. Philip would try to help everyone he could Philip was a very smart and interesting man. Although he was uneducated, he could out smart the most educated when he wanted to. Tami recalls, “his intelligence always impressed me.”
Philip loved to tell stories about his childhood just as Tami loves to tell stories about him from her childhood.
The people that Philip knew all seemed to love him. Wally Jewell was a man he cherished. The two of them absolutely loved hunting in the Bob Marshall. Leo Dutton was another man with whom Philip found a strong connection. He would spend as much time as he could with these two as they brought him great happiness. There were many others who found a special likeness with Philip, but it was these two whom always put a special smile on his face.
Philip was a strong man and never showed fear. To him Tami says, “I will miss you every second of every minute of every day. But I will see you again in Heaven. Love you Dad.”

Phil was a larger than life character with a big heart. My condolences to his family and those who were lucky enough to be his friend. Somebody really should gather his stories and write a book.
