Philip Fredrick Ranf, age 75, passed away early the morning of August 20, 2018 at home. Phil was born December 17, 1942 in Helena to Fredrick and Margery (DeBree) Ranf. He lived most of his life in Helena, briefly in Boise and Hamilton. Phil had a successful career with, and retired from Mountain Bell.
Phil and Lois Jerome Ranf were married for 36 years. Their partnership was inspirational for the respect and adoration they provided one another. She survives him as do his two children, Christine Ranf Sopko (Paul) and Timothy Ranf (Campbell Midgley). His two brothers, Ric Ranf (Barbara) and Jeff Ranf (Gayla) also survive, along with his beloved grandchildren, Collin, Sam, Lacey, Andrew, Alissa and Elliott. Phil has extended family who were special to him, especially nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Phil was a cowboy at heart, an outdoorsman, an accomplished golfer and a champion for children and animals. Though a quiet man, his dry sense of humor, keen intellect, and kindness always brought a smile to those around him. Through his example, we learned a deeper appreciation for nature and all its gifts; a love for the game of golf and the pursuit of excellence; the value of honesty, integrity, and loyalty; what it looks like to persevere amidst great adversity; and the true meaning of unconditional love. His loss is felt deeply by his family and dear friends. Still waters run deep.
Thank you to Hospice of St. Peters for the care provided to Phil.
At his request, no services will take place. Condolences may be left for the family at www.helenafunerals.com.
