Robert Wesley Kenney died July 12, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital Helena, MT
He was born September 14, 1922 near Goose Bay, near Townsend in Broadwater County to Elmer and Annie (Fisher) Kenney. The place is now under Canyon Ferry Lake. His grade schooling was at the Canton School.
He was a descendant of pioneers; one being the first homesteader in Broadwater County was his great grandfather George Beatty and his grandfather William Fisher, a sheep rancher in the Canton valley.
He graduated from Broadwater High School in 1940 , entered WWII in 1943, Inducted in the Army at Ft Douglas,Utah with a Specialty Auto Mechanics; served in Europe, was in France, and Germany. In 1945 at end of his time in Europe, he was a Tech Sergeant. He went over on the Ship, Ilde France and came home on the ship, Queen Mary.
Went to work for James Ward in 1945 and drove the Conoco Fuel truck for 55 years delivering fuels to the farmers and heating fuels to his many customers in Townsend. After James Ward died, Bob took over the Conoco business until he retired in 1994. He was known as the Conoco Man.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and its choir for seventy years until he helped to begin the Trailhead Church in 2001.
June 14, 1953, he married Peggy L. Archer in Billings, Mt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Bertha, and Margaret Kenney; two brothers, Bill (who died in New Guinea in WWII) and Francis John “Pat”.
Bob is survived by his wife, Peggy, three sons and nine grandchildren, Gene (Kim) of Havre; Rodger (Sara) of Anaconda, Mt. and Phillip (Sandra) of Pocatello, Idaho. Grandsons: Jason Kenney, Sean Peterson.; Cristopher (Libby) Kenney, Tyler Kenney and Francis (Tara) Bailey; Granddaughters: Adriann, Amanda (Bill) Amen, Jamie McBryan (Marc) and Micah Kenney . Great grandsons, Keegan Kenney and Kalab Stephenson, and great grand daughters, MacKenzie Blue, Callah Kenney, Sutton McBryan, Kamberlyn and Kynleigh Bailey.
Bob is also survived by his brother Glenn Kenney of Helena and many cousins including Wesley Beatty of Helena and Norma Ashby of Great Falls.
