On November 9, 2013 in Helena, Montana, Robert (Bob) Wilkins Stephens passed away from natural causes. He was 88 years old. Bob was born in Denver, Colorado on August 8, 1925 to Olive and Glenn Stephens. He was their first son.
As a member of the boy scouts he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He served in the Navy from 1943-1946 as an Aviation Electronics Technician’s mate second class.
Bob learned to ski at the age of 30. He spent time helping develop Belmont Ski Hill now known as the Great Divide. He served on the ski patrol there as well. He was able to ski until the age of 86.
Bob was married to Jean Dvorak. They had 5 children and later divorced. He later married Eleanor (Stewart, Turnbill, and Blain). She preceded him in death.
The Al-Anon Club and Wilson House were hangouts of dad’s. While there he made many friends and celebrated 26 years of sobriety.
Bob worked for Mountain Bell for 35 years. He transferred from Denver to Helena taking early retirement when Ma Bell started downsizing.
He was a collector of all kinds of music. Big band era was his favorite.
Bob is survived by his children: Karen (Brad) Heil, Kirk, Keith (Kathy), Kevin, Kent (Melina) Stephens. Grandchildren: Joshua, Justin, Gabriel, Trevor, Kelsi, Brian, Aimee, Jamie, Alexander, Jacob, Luke, Felicity, and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother Hazel, wife Eleanor and brother Scott.
Special thanks to his landlord Kurt Goss for being a friend and helping him stay independent. Other friends Paula, Alexis, Kathy for indulging his sweet tooth and helping him when he would allow.
Per his request no religious services. Graveside service with full Military Honors will be held, 11 AM Monday, November 25, at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery.
