Tillie Theresa Rentmeister-Lakner passed away at her daughter’s home in Helena, Montana on November 22, 2025, her 98th birthday. Tillie was born in Corinne, Utah to Cora Marie Jensen and Raymond Emery Redelings in 1927. While in high school she met her husband Wallace John Rentmeister, a World War II veteran. They married on March 24th, 1945. The pair had three children. They eventually settled down on a ranch near Twin Bridges Montana.
Tillie and Wallace took their children when they went on numerous fishing and hunting trips, hiking into the mountains to find the best Christmas tree, dinners and card playing with family and friends. After Wallace passed away in 1968 Tillie moved to Helena where she lived the rest of her life. There she met and married John Lakner. They were married 15 years until Lakner’s death.
Tillie was a gardener, baker, and craftswoman. She tended to her garden, a variety of fruits and vegetables. She canned leftover the produce not eaten fresh. Her family remembers the aroma of freshly baked bread, rolls, and other baked goods, all of which Tillie needed no recipe from her years of practice.
Tillie was known for going above and beyond during the holiday season. She meticulously decorated her Christmas tree adding one strand of tinsel at a time. Gifts were always carefully wrapped and decorated. She was an amateur artist, painting landscapes, and ordinary household items full of vibrant color and advanced perspective. Many of the paintings hung in family rooms and hallways. She enjoyed crocheting, weaving together afghan blankets and ornaments.
Tillie is survived by three daughters, Terry, Alice, and Vicki, and two stepdaughters, Louise and Pat, 17 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on December 6 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints located at 1260 Otter Road in Helena.

Tillie I was fortunate to have Tillie as a renter. She was a great renter like a perfect 10. I hated to see her leave but we knew it was best for her. Rest in Peace my Friend.
