Memorial note for Rea Knight
We became friends of Rea and Jan many years ago at Hiram College in Ohio. Although we met Rea through College affairs, we became close friends with many common interests outside of academia. One of our fondest memories is spending an hour or two with Rea and Jan in their outdoor, wood fired hot tub which Rea had built in the woods behind their place. Rea would call up, even in the middle of winter, and say “Come on over, I’ve just fired the hot tub upâ€, and we would join Rea and Jan in the tub, sometimes with snow gently wafting down through the trees and raccoons waddling around underneath.
In later years after Rea had retired and moved to Montana, we would often visit Rea and Jan at their cottage on Fish Lake in the UP of Michigan. Sometimes they’d take us canoeing, exploring the lakes and rivers near their cottage, and sometimes they’d take us up to Munising to show us some new restaurant they had just discovered. Good times and good memories. We miss you, Rea. Peace, Prudy and Rich Hall

Rea was Hiram, One of the nicest professors there, one of the best. Love to his family and Jan.

What a hole in the “fabric of life” is left, with Rea’s death. I’ve been so sad to know that my kind, generous, smart, thoughtful, and moral colleague is not part of this world. Rea’s role as part of an amazingly wonderful Psych Department, with Jan, Ralph, and Andy, lent a central core that made even department meetings a pleasure. Discussions often veered from mundane scheduling into psychology theory, philosophy, or anecdotes about ground squirrels. Time spent with Knight daughters, were equally a joy. All my memories of camping out west, bird watching, and Northwoods fill me with joy, even as I weep for the loss of Rea. Sending my love. Gwen Fischer
