Wayne Harvey Krieger, 87, of East Helena, Montana, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Wayne was born in Kalispell, Montana on September 22, 1927 and grew up in Twin Bridges, Montana before attending high school in Helena, Montana. After high school, Wayne served his country in the U.S. Navy. After an honorable discharge on November 5, 1948, Wayne worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Helena for 32 years before retiring. Wayne also served for 20 years as a Councilman on the East Helena City Council. Wayne enjoyed gardening and baseball – closely following the New York Yankees throughout his life. One of the highlights of his life was visiting New York City with his family in 2000, where he cheered the Yankees on to victory in Yankee Stadium. Wayne also enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete in local sports.
Wayne is survived by his wife Hazel (Mergenthaler) of 53 years; daughter Kerry (Sean) Logan; son Karl (Rhonda) Krieger; grandchildren Matthew, Meghan, Sarah; as well as many other loving relatives. Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11:00am at the East Helena United Methodist Church. A reception will immediately follow the service.
Wayne will be laid to rest with Military Honors at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison.
