William R. Henwood was born Dec. 4, 1943, to Hobson and Fae Henwood. He passed away Jan. 26, 2014, at the VA Montana Healthcare Center.
Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served aboard the USS Worden for six years.
Bill and Carol Boone were married April 9, 1969, in Helena.
Bill logged many miles of driving truck for Associated Food Stores until an on-the-job accident forced early retirement.
Bill is survived by his children, Steven (Michelle) and Tamerly; his three grandchildren, Chris (Ericka), Kara (Kelly) and Grandville (Steve); and by four great-grandchildren who brought great joy to his life. Bill is also survived by his remaining siblings, Sylvia, Dale (Brenda), Mike, Patty (Mike), Barb (Ivan); and by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly. Bill is also survived by his lifelong friend, Mary Ellen.
Bill had a great love of the outdoors. He loved fishing, camping and riding his horses and mules into the backcountry.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 5 at Forestvale Cemetery in Helena with a reception to follow at the Eagles Lodge.
